Emergency Communication: The Role of Educators in a Disaster - This AFA Coffee Chat will discuss how educators can prepare to serve their communities using emergency communication strategies during a disaster. We'll cover the significance of teaching professors about GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) and the process of obtaining ham radio licenses. Additionally, the session will address acquiring the necessary communication gear for effective emergency response. The goal is to empower educators with the knowledge and tools to play a crucial role in emergency communication.
Host - The Coffee Chat will be hosted by “LMC” Lisa Marie Coppoletta, Immediate Past President of the Adjunct Faculty Association and a General Class License Ham Radio Operator. LMC holds operating privileges on all Amateur Radio bands and modes, maintains her GMRS license, and is an active member of several clubs, including The Richardson Wireless Klub and the Hays-Caldwell Amateur Radio Club. She is also the recipient of numerous ham radio awards.
